More and more travelers from all over the world are choosing Valencia as their favorite destination no matter what time of year it is. And not only because of its climate, its gastronomy or the infinite cultural or leisure options, but also because one of its greatest attractions is its architecture, characterized by classic and modernist styles.<\/p>\n

Visiting the city, and especially its historic center, means going through more than 2,000 years of history reflected in the different architectural styles. So much so that it was named the European Capital of Smart Tourism in 2022 and as if that were not enough, it was also, the same year, the World Design Capital. Gothic architecture in Valencia<\/h2>\n

We could not start this guide without mentioning the Gothic architecture of Valencia, one of the most predominant styles in our city. The Gothic influence can be found in various buildings and monuments in the historic center such as the Lonja de la Seda, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.<\/p>\n

In the Gothic Valencia also highlights the Cathedral of Valencia and the Torre del Miguelete, the bell tower of the Cathedral, where the views of the city are spectacular. You can not miss it!<\/p>\n

We continue inside the historic center of the city, among the narrow streets of the Barrio del Carmen we can find the emblematic Torres de Quart and Torres de Serranos, the last remains of the old wall through which the city was accessed.<\/p>\n

Lastly, of the many bridges that cross the old Turia riverbed, the Puente de la Trinidad and the Puente de los Serranos maintain a Gothic style, worthy of admiration.<\/p>\n

Neoclassical architecture of Valencia<\/h2>\n

Valencia also hides great neoclassical treasures despite the fact that Gothic is one of the most representative artistic styles. The main protagonist of Valencian neoclassical architecture is the Teatro Principal, which continues to give rise to great theatrical and artistic performances in the city. The Valencia City Hall or the La Nau Cultural Center are other neoclassical works where the architecture of Valencia reveals simplicity and classical culture.<\/p>\n

Modern architecture of Valencia<\/h2>\n

Valencia’s modernist architecture arrived with a bang at the beginning of the 20th century when the walls that surrounded the city were demolished and large buildings were built in the extensions. A time characterized by monuments full of ornamental elements on their facades and much more artistic designs. Post Office Building and Suay Building<\/h3>\n

If you pass near the Plaza del Ayuntamiento we have a mandatory architectural visit for you: the Post Office Building, one of the\u00a0most charming corners of Valencia<\/a>. It preserves an eclectic style with elements of Valencia’s modernist architecture. In front of the Post Office we find the Suay building, another example of the influence of the modern era.<\/p>\n

From here we can walk towards Calle Col\u00f3n, one of the main streets of the Ensanche intended for leisure and shops.<\/p>\n

A few meters away we find the Mercado de Col\u00f3n, declared a National Monument and not in vain, its facade will leave you fooled. It is one of the largest modernist buildings in Valencia that has become a splendid meeting point for restaurants and leisure.<\/p>\n

From here, we can head towards Gran V\u00eda del Marqu\u00e9s del Turia where some of the most beautiful modernist buildings in the city are located, such as Casa Ortega and Casa Chapa.<\/p>\n

Central Market<\/h3>\n

Returning to the historic center of the city, in front of the Lonja de la Seda, we find the Central Market, one of the most spectacular and well-known buildings in the city. Its ceramic pieces, mosaics and tiles with motifs from the Valencian orchard stand out.<\/p>\n
